When you think about the word organic I am sure that it’s food that first comes to mind. This is the case for me too, it’s the largest and possibly most important part of the organic industry as we actually consume the food into our bodies. It directly affects our health.
However anything that contains elements that is grown or bred has to come from a farm of some sort. So if you want to live an organic lifestyle then you need to question all items that you purchase. Think especially about your clothes (leather, cotton, hemp), items containing paper or wood and even biofuel. The more you think the more items you can see that are from plant or animal source.
However the fact that we do not ingest these items does not mean that by them being non-organic that they are not affecting our health.
Organic farming soil is pesticide free and the soil often holds water much better. Less run off and it being less toxic means much less chance of our water supplies getting polluted. Organically farmed animals also have far less dangerous chemicals in their waste, which means less chance of it entering our food, water and air. This is one of just many things to consider when organic farming and how it indirectly affects our health is concerned.
It’s very unlikely that everything in your life can be organic but you can try as hard as possible.
Clothing and Shoes is a definite first place to start. Organic cotton is a very nice material and if you buy leather then it is possible to find that in organic too. However you could avoid leather all together. Many nature themed stores stock excellent organic canvas and hemp footwear and an excellent selection of cool and modern designed clothing.
After clothing take a look at your cosmetics and grooming products, Many contain plant extracts and more and more organic ranges are being introduced. You could even go for local small business alternatives. Many local bathtub business are developing in the grooming and cosmetics industry.
