We are surrounded by way to many chemicals in my personal opinion. Our air is pollute from car fumes and industry, our tap water even ideally needs purification and our non-organic foods can even carry harmful substances.
One other source of nasty chemicals is from our cleaning cupboard. Just go and take a look right now! Start reading the ingredients to these sprays, liquids and powders. Is all that really needed for a bit of dust and grease?
If you start considering organic alternatives for your cleaning duties you will find yourself and your family in much less contact with these harmful chemicals.
Start with things such as your washing powder. General washing powder contains petroleum derived ingredients and may cause problems when it gets back into our water. It could affect local animals and these chemicals most likely work their way back into the food chain. You can start with non-scented detergent or look for some of the organic natural brands that are now available. A little baking soda or white vinegar can even be used instead of softener.
Surfaces of your home can be cleaned with a simple mixture of organic lemon or white vinegar with water. This is fine for most things. For germ killing very hot water does the trick and you can add a little baking soda for some abrasion if needed. It may require a little more work than you are used to but it’s worth it in the end.
Wooden and smooth surfaces in the living room and other rooms don’t need to have expensive polish to make them shine. Many plant based oils are available from lemon oil and even beeswax derived products. They are all excellent choices and many natural organic brands can now be found with a little hunting around.
